KA-BAR Dozier Folding Thumb Notch - Robek Outdoors Review
Hi, I think you've met the Ka-bar Dozier knife more than once. But I would like to show you, in my opinion, a much more interesting version of this knife. I received the review knife from the Specshop.pl store. As always, let's start with the numbers. The whole knife is 184 mm, of which 76 mm is the length of the blade. The knife is equipped with a Clip Point blade made of AUS-8A steel with a thickness of 3 mm. The size works perfectly, there is no problem with carrying it in your pocket, but it is small enough to interfere with the performance of various tasks.
Its covers are made of a composite called Zytel. Thanks to their aggressive texture, they allow for a very firm grip. I checked it by performing various activities with a knife - more or less complicated and it never happened that I lost control over it even when it was wet. The lack of metal liners makes the covers slightly bend, but it is not so noticeable that it affects the comfort of work.
The clip can be put on both sides of the knife, the cladding has room for the clip itself and the screw to be screwed. The exchange itself is very quick, because it is held by one screw. Unfortunately, it lost some of its color, but it was used quite intensively, so it's not surprising. The knife with this clip does not sit deep in the pocket, but with this design, in my opinion, it is not conspicuous. There are no sharp edges on it, so it does not damage the edge of the pocket, elastic bands in the backpack's binder or the kidney - I consider it a very big plus. Above the clip there is a lanyard grommet.
The Clip Point blade works really well here - the knife retains nice ergonomics, making it very comfortable to use. You can easily open it with one hand using the hole in the blade, and the "eye" itself gives it an interesting look. The AUS-8A stainless steel, which was used in the production of the blade, works perfectly. We don't have to worry too much about maintenance, and sharpening is a pleasure for a skilled hand. And we don't have to do it too often, because the knife keeps sharpness nicely. The 3 mm blade is a lot of power for a small folder, the full flat cut may not be a cutting demon, but it gives us a much greater durability of the blade. Despite quite intensive use, no bug-play has appeared here.
The Back-Lock is definitely not my favorite type of lock, and that's because I like to stick with a knife, and here it is very difficult. But one cannot be denied - she holds her really firmly, which allows us to work safely and comfortably. This lock, unlike others, is very easy to release even when wearing thick gloves. Thanks to this structure, the entire back can be filled, so it does not cut into the hand in any place. The knife weighs really little, about 61g, we don't have to worry that it will be too heavy, e.g. to be worn in shorts. And its flat design will allow it to be conveniently placed in a small kidney or "survival" kit.
Can I recommend this knife? I can honestly say yes! It is great for everyday use, and thanks to its simple design and ergonomics, it will also be perfect for hunting and fishing. In fact, it is worth having it at hand in every situation - it was useful for me, for example, for stripping insulation when I did not have any tools with me and it proved to be great! Importantly, I didn't have to sharpen it after cutting a few heat-shrinkable insulations, so I was sure it wouldn't disappoint me on the next occasion.
I think it's a really good tool and an interesting alternative to our classic Dozier. I like it much more! It is a great gift idea. I would be happy to get such a surprise and I will probably surprise someone at the earliest opportunity.Material provided courtesy of Robek Outdoors.
